Handling a Water Disaster in Your Phoenix Business

12/24/2021 (Permalink)

Heavy December rains in the Phoenix area put many homes and businesses alike at risk of possible water damage. Whether a small leak through a compromised roof or a substantial flood that impacts a showroom floor, a water disaster in a place of business needs to be addressed quickly to minimize damage.

Why addresses water damage quickly is important for businesses

While water damage to a home or business is equally frustrating, the impact can be even more substantial for businesses. If the damage causes a business to close or scale back until the damage is addressed, the costs can add up. Each day is a loss of receipts, and if the doors remain closed for more than a few days, there is the loss of customers. In just a few weeks, the doors could close permanently. That is why commercial water removal is so important to businesses, especially smaller operations that may not be able to survive extended periods of time without business. Many businesses are still recovering from an unprecedented year of challenges, so water damage needs to be resolved quickly to get the business up and running. SERVPRO water remediation professionals concentrate on removing standing water, drying inventory, and lowering the humidity inside the structure to prevent mold and mildew damage, and the odors that can accompany that. We typically perform these tasks in a set order to get the best results. Our water restoration process is tried and true.

SERVPRO’s water restoration approach for businesses

Our trained restoration crews bring in pumps and water extraction wands to pull water out of the structure. The commercial-grade pumps are highly effective and lower the water down to just an inch or two very quickly. Once the water is at this level, we switch to the wands to lower the level until it is only a thin layer over the floor surface. At this point, technicians use long-handled squeegees to push water off the floor and out the nearest exit. They follow up this action with air movers to finish drying the surface. In conjunction with this effort, other techs remove any inventory that is unaffected by the water to temporary storage inside or outside the structure. Then, they use more air movers to force warm air over the affected inventory to dry it. To increase the effectiveness of the air movers, we also set up fans at exit points to draw moist air out of the structure. Additionally, SERVPRO technicians set up dehumidifiers to start drawing moisture from the air. Depending on the humidity level. After water floods a business, not everything is restorable to its original condition. SERVPRO professionals will keep business owners informed on the extent of the damage, what is salvageable, what needs reconstruction, and what items are considered a loss.
